Ithaca Shelf Cottage No. 7 Double Dial Calendar Clock - This is an Ithaca Calendar Clock Company double dial shelf cottage clock, identified as the number 7 model. The case is constructed of carved walnut and features a distinctive gabled or peaked top above a rectangular body flanked by side pilasters. The clock houses two separate mechanisms. The upper section contains an eight day spring driven mechanical time movement with a coiled wire strike and a dial featuring black Roman numerals. The lower section features a perpetual calendar mechanism patented by H. B. Horton, designed to automatically account for months of varying lengths and leap years. This lower dial displays a circular date track numbered 1 through 31, two rectangular apertures for the day of the week and month, and a moon phase indicator at the 12 o'clock position. The lower dial face includes an interlocking ICCo logo and is inscribed with H. B. HORTON'S PATENTS. April 18, 1865. and Aug. 28, 1865. and ITHACA CALENDAR CLOCK Co. ITHACA, N. Y. Internal examination reveals the mechanical components including brass gears, springs, and paper rollers printed with the days of the week and months of the year. Width: 8.5 inches. The lower calendar dial shows significant condition issues including heavy flaking, staining, and substantial loss to the paper face. The upper time dial exhibits heavy staining and discoloration throughout. The carved wood case displays scattered scratches, small nicks, and areas of wear to the finish consistent with age and use. The rear wooden panel is present but heavily scratched and shows patches of black adhesive residue. The internal movement is untested for functionality and shows accumulated dust and grime. The pendulum is included.
