Waterbury Clock Co. Mahogany Ogee Mantel Clock with Andrew Jackson Portrait - This is an antique Ogee mantel clock manufactured by the Waterbury Clock Co. of Waterbury, Connecticut. The case is constructed of wood with mahogany veneer featuring the traditional S-curve molding. The hinged front door is divided into two glass panels. The lower panel features a reverse-painted eglomise portrait of President Andrew Jackson set within an ornate gilt frame on a red and black ground, with the name ANDREW JACKSON printed at the base of the image. The interior of the case retains a partially intact paper label with an eagle and banner reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, identifying the maker as the Waterbury Clock Co. and specifying a 30-hour mechanical movement. The square paper dial features Roman numerals and black transfer-printed scrollwork in each corner, with a central cutout exposing the brass gears of the movement. The dial is marked 7 OG in the lower right corner. The clock features a strike on a coiled wire gong, and the cast iron gong mount is stamped with the manufacturer's name. A secondary alarm mechanism with a small bell is present. The lot includes a pendulum bob and a detached brass-handled winding crank. Height: 25.5 inches Width: 15.5 inches. The case exhibits significant veneer loss, chipping, and general wear along the bottom front edge and corners. The wood backboard shows a prominent vertical crack and visible water staining. The paper dial shows moderate yellowing, age-related staining, and wear around the winding holes. The lower glass tablet has minor wear and loss to the gold-stenciled decorative borders. The auxiliary alarm mechanism is currently detached from its original mounting position and is resting in the bottom of the case. Mechanical functionality is untested. General surface wear and oxidation to metal parts are present, consistent with age.
