A.O. Whittemore Havana New York Two Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration - This mid-19th-century American salt-glazed stoneware crock originated from the pottery of Alvin O. Whittemore in Havana, New York, now known as Montour Falls. The two-gallon vessel is cylindrical in form with a flared rim and two applied lug handles. The interior is finished with a dark brown Albany slip glaze. The front features a bold floral spray executed in deep cobalt blue slip, consisting of two blossoming flowers branching from a central leafy stem. The shoulder is impressed with the maker mark A.O. WHITTEMORE / HAVANA, N.Y. and a capacity mark 2 flanked by curved flourishes. The body exhibits characteristic kiln-related attributes including small pits and scattered dark iron spots. Capacity: 2 Gallons. There is a notable chip to one lug handle at the attachment point. Several small chips and surface abrasions are visible along the rim. The body shows light surface staining, scuffing, and typical kiln-related imperfections including blowouts and iron spots. The unglazed base displays dark residues and iron spotting.
