Bidspirit auction | Victorian German Easter Rabbit Candy

Victorian German Easter Rabbit Candy Container with Nodder Ears - This is a standing rabbit figurine produced in Germany as an Easter candy container. The piece is constructed from molded composition material with a two-tone painted finish in tan and cream. The head is detachable to reveal a hollow body cavity and is joined by a paper-covered cardboard sleeve. The rabbit features inset amber glass eyes and a painted nose and mouth. The ears are made of wood and mounted on metal coil springs to allow for a nodding motion. The internal cardboard neck sleeve is stamped with the word Germany in purple ink. Length: 9 inches. This item is in fair condition with significant damage and wear consistent with age. There is a large break and loss of composition material on the back of the head which exposes the hollow interior. Widespread paint loss, scuffing, and fine surface crazing are visible across the head and body. The painted surfaces show overall soiling and discoloration. Metal ear springs exhibit oxidation and surface rust. The wooden ears show paint loss and minor wear to the edges.
