Bidspirit auction | Art Nouveau Cast Bronze Leaf-Form
Art Nouveau Cast Bronze Leaf-Form Tray with Insects Signed M.H. DEP - This lot features a cast bronze tray or card receiver executed in the naturalistic Art Nouveau style. The vessel is modeled as a large broadleaf with detailed, textured veining and a curled stem that functions as a small handle. The upper surface is decorated with two small insects—a fly and a beetle—cast in relief. The underside of the leaf is supported by three integral cast ribs that serve as feet. The piece exhibits a dense and varied patina with significant green verdigris and deep brown tones consistent with age. The reverse side is marked with the cast initials M.H. and the abbreviation DEP. (for Depose) along one of the leaf veins. Length: Approximately 8.75 inches. The tray is in good antique condition. The cast metal shows no evidence of cracks, breaks, or repairs. The surface displays a thick, naturally occurring patina with heavy verdigris deposits throughout, particularly within the recessed areas of the leaf veins.
