19th Century English Style Blue and White Transfer-Printed Earthenware Coal Scuttle with Metal Liner - An antique English style blue and white transfer-printed earthenware vessel, likely intended as a fireside coal scuttle or a large decorative planter. The piece is of rectangular form with a flared base, concave sides, and two molded scroll handles. The exterior is decorated with an all-over underglaze blue transfer print featuring large bouquets of roses and dahlias emerging from lattice-patterned urns. The central motifs are set against a fine stippled sheet pattern background, and the rim is finished with a scrolling foliate and shell-style border. The underside of the vessel is unmarked. The lot includes a removable, custom-fit rectangular metal liner with a rolled rim, likely composed of zinc or galvanized steel. Height: 6.5 to 7 inches Width: 10 inches (including handles). The earthenware vessel exhibits heavy glaze crazing throughout, consistent with age. There is a visible hairline crack on the base extending from one corner. Minor surface staining and light wear are present along the unglazed bottom edges and the interior. The removable metal liner shows significant oxidation and surface corrosion but remains structurally intact. The transfer print remains vibrant with good clarity.
