Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Vintage Cast
A Collection of Vintage Cast Metal Savings Banks and Military Figures - This lot features an assortment of mid-century and early 20th-century American metal toys and banks. The collection includes three distinct savings banks and a group of military figures. The primary bank is a pressed steel or tinplate Postal Savings Bank modeled after a United States mailbox. It features embossed lettering reading POSTAL SAVINGS BANK and U S MAIL, with the reverse stamped PAT'D APR. 8, 1902. This bank includes a curved top with four coin slots, two transparent celluloid or glass viewing windows, and a locking mechanism on the base. A second bank is a small cubic cast iron building bank featuring a Gothic-style facade with arched details and cross-shaped perforations. It retains faint traces of original red paint. The third bank is a cast metal souvenir of the Statue of Liberty, featuring the name embossed on the base and a coin slot located on the underside. The military group consists of multiple cast metal soldier figures, likely hollow-cast or slush-cast, attributed to manufacturers such as Manoil or Barclay. The figures are depicted in various tactical poses, including riflemen in standing, kneeling, and charging positions, as well as a soldier operating a machine gun. The set also includes one field artillery gun with a silver-painted barrel and tan carriage, featuring two integrated crew members. The figures are finished in a tan and olive drab paint scheme with green helmets and red accents on weaponry. The items are in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and play. The military figures and field gun show moderate to heavy paint loss and chipping. The Postal Savings Bank displays a dark aged patina and minor surface oxidation. The cast iron building bank exhibits heavy surface rust and significant loss of its original red finish. The Statue of Liberty bank shows heavy corrosion and oxidation throughout the casting. All components are sold as-is without original packaging.
