Large Antique Ornate Enamel and Brass Champleve Scroll Holder with Peacock Eye Motif - An ornate enameled metal tube, characterized as a scroll holder or decorative etui, crafted from a copper-based alloy such as brass. The object features a cylindrical central body with tapered conical terminals at each end. One terminal is a removable cap secured to the body by a small brass-tone curb chain. The exterior is decorated in a champleve technique with repeating teardrop-shaped cells, often referred to as a peacock eye motif. These cells are filled with high-domed, translucent cobalt blue enamel. The raised metal divisions between the cells are detailed with engraved foliate patterns. Both terminal caps are decorated with chased scrolling foliate designs. There are no visible maker marks, hallmarks, or signatures. Note that the threads for the removable cap do not thread properly. Length: 8.75 inches. The item is in antique condition with a visible aged patina across the metal surfaces. Areas of green oxidation or verdigris are present. The enamel is largely intact but exhibits surface scratches and internal crazing consistent with age. There is light surface dirt and pitting on the metal terminals. The mechanical threading for the cap is non-functional as the threads do not align or engage properly.
