American Folk Art Tramp Art Gilt Wood Jewelry Box with Drawers - This American folk art jewelry box is crafted in the Tramp Art style, featuring complex layered and notched chip-carved wood construction. The exterior is finished with a gold-toned paint or gilding over a wooden frame. The box is constructed from reclaimed cigar box components, with the interior lid retaining printed branding for the White Lily brand, manufactured at Factory No. 855 in the 2nd District of New York. The design includes a hinged upper lid and two functioning lower drawers fitted with metal ring pulls. The lid is accented with two recessed panels containing applied wooden letters C and S. The reverse of the box features an incised inscription identifying Geo. Harold. The box is supported by four stepped, notched feet. Height: 4.5 inches Width: 6.75 inches Depth: 4 inches. The box shows age-appropriate wear consistent with an early 20th-century folk art object. There is rubbing and thinning to the gold-toned finish, particularly on high-relief points and corners, exposing the underlying wood. Small chips and minor losses are present on some of the notched edges. The metal hinges and drawer pulls are intact and functional.
