English George III Style Octagonal Satinwood Tea Caddy with Shell and Floral Marquetry - An antique English George III style octagonal tea caddy, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. The vessel is constructed with a satinwood or similar light-colored fruitwood veneer featuring intricate marquetry inlays. The top and front panels are decorated with oval medallions depicting detailed floral bouquets in various woods. The side panels are inlaid with conch shell motifs within oval borders. The edges are finished with contrasting wood stringing. The hinged lid opens to a red-lined interior containing two separate tea compartments, each with a removable wooden lid topped with a brass knob. The piece is fitted with a brass escutcheon and includes a simple ring-head key. The base is covered in a green woven fabric. No manufacturer marks are present on the object. There is visible cracking, checking, and some lifting to the veneer throughout, particularly at the joints and edges of the lid and base. The red lid lining exhibits some surface wear and staining. The key is present and the lock mechanism is intact.
