Bidspirit auction | Large Native American Coiled Globular

Large Native American Coiled Globular Storage Basket - This large globular storage basket is constructed using a traditional coiling technique, characteristic of Native American basketry from the Central California region, specifically attributed to the Yokuts people. The piece is woven with a light-colored foundation of split willow or sedge root and features dark decorative elements created with split redbud bark or bracken fern root. The exterior is decorated with a repeating geometric rattlesnake motif, consisting of stacked dark triangles forming interlocking diamond columns against the buff-colored ground. The design continues to the base, which features a tight spiral start. The weave is uniform and dense throughout. The rim is finished with a simple, consistent coiled edge. Diameter: 10.5 to 11 inches Height: 10.5 to 11 inches. The basket is in good overall condition, slightly bowed. The structure remains sound with no visible breaks, missing stitches, or structural failures. The surface exhibits a natural patina and light surface wear consistent with age and handling. No signs of repair or restoration are visible.
