Navajo-Style Transitional Flat-Woven Wool Rug with Banded Design - This flat-woven rug features a design characteristic of late 19th or early 20th-century Southwestern textiles. The rug is constructed from hand-spun wool and features a wide central field of natural variegated tan and grey wool. This field is accented by three sets of narrow paired red and white horizontal stripes. The top and bottom ends are finished with complex multi-colored banded borders incorporating shades of orange, magenta, purple, forest green, and white. Visible within the weave are lazy lines, which are diagonal breaks in the textile characteristic of specific weaving techniques. Attached to the rug is a vintage paper cleaning tag from Megerian Rug Cleaners, Inc., located at 93 Division Place, Brooklyn, NY 11222, with the claim check number 3413. Length: 77 inches Width: 44 inches. The rug shows wear consistent with age and use. There is noticeable fraying and loss to the warp threads at both ends, and some minor unraveling along the selvedge edges. The central field shows several areas of faint brownish staining and general surface soiling.
