US 1880-S Morgan Silver Dollar - A US Morgan silver dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1880. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Liberty with a headband inscribed LIBERTY, the legend E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen stars, and the date 1880. The reverse depicts an eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch, encircled by a laurel wreath. Legends include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, with the motto In God we trust above the eagle. A small relief-struck S mint mark is located on the reverse, centered above the space between the letters DO in DOLLAR. The coin is presented in a white cardboard and plastic flip secured by four staples. The flip bears handwritten notations in blue ink reading 1880-S and EF. The coin shows moderate wear on the high points of the design, specifically on Liberty's hair curls above the ear and the eagle's breast feathers (Photos 1, 2). The surfaces retain original luster with peripheral golden-brown and charcoal-grey toning, which is more pronounced on the reverse (Photo 2). Minor contact marks and scattered bag scratches are visible in the fields and on Liberty's cheek (Photo 1). No cleaning or harsh environmental damage is observed. The coin remains in the extremely fine condition noted on the packaging.
