1856 US Seated Liberty Silver Dime - A United States silver dime from the Seated Liberty series, dated 1856. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The obverse features the Seated Liberty design and is inscribed with thirteen stars and the date 1856 at the base. The reverse is inscribed with the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the perimeter and the denomination ONE DIME within a laurel wreath. The absence of a mint mark indicates this specimen was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. Weight: 0.074 ozt. The coin exhibits heavy, even circulation wear consistent with a grade of Good to About Good (photo 1, photo 2). Most of the interior design detail on both the obverse and reverse is lost to wear. The surfaces show significant dark oxidation, irregular spotting, and pitting resulting from environmental exposure (photo 1, photo 2, photo 3).
