US 1891-O Morgan Silver Dollar - This US one dollar coin is a Morgan Silver Dollar dated 1891. It was struck at the New Orleans Mint, identified by the O mint mark located on the reverse, centered above the DO in DOLLAR (photo 3). The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The obverse features the Morgan design of Lady Liberty facing left, encircled by thirteen stars, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the date 1891. The reverse depicts an eagle with outstretched wings holding an olive branch and arrows, surrounded by a laurel wreath and the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and In God we trust in Gothic script. The coin is presented in a white cardboard and plastic flip. The obverse of the flip bears handwritten notations in blue and black ink reading 1891 O, F, and 9.50. The reverse of the flip has a handwritten notation in blue ink reading ££9 (photo 2). The coin is in circulated condition with moderate to heavy wear consistent with the F notation on the holder. Flattening and loss of detail are visible on the high points, specifically Liberty's hair above the ear and the cotton blossoms on the obverse (photo 1), and the eagle's breast feathers on the reverse (photo 2). Numerous small contact marks, bag marks, and fine scratches are distributed across the fields and devices on both sides. The surfaces exhibit light gray toning and localized areas of darker patina near the legends. The cardboard holder shows signs of age, including yellowing and oxidation on the metal staples (photo 1).
