CH 1948 B 1/2 Franc Silver Coin - This Swiss 1/2 Franc coin is struck in .835 fine silver at the Bern Mint. The obverse features the standing Helvetia design, depicting the personification of Switzerland in robes holding a spear and a shield decorated with the Swiss cross. The legend HELVETIA is struck in block letters at the base, and the figure is surrounded by a border of twenty-two five-pointed stars. The reverse displays the denomination 1/2 Fr. centered above the date 1948, all within a wreath composed of oak and alpine rose branches. A capital letter B mint mark is struck at the 6 o'clock position on the reverse. The coin features a reeded edge and is housed in a clear protective holder. The coin exhibits a circulated grade with moderate wear on the high points. Wear is visible on the central folds of Helvetia's robes and the spear (photo 1). The reverse shows flattening on the leaves and berries of the wreath (photo 2). Both sides display a dark grey and brownish toning across the fields and devices. Scattered minor contact marks and surface abrasions are present, consistent with a circulated coin of this age.
