1889-O US Morgan Silver Dollar - A 1889 US Morgan silver dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper with a reeded edge. The obverse features a left-facing profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, with a headband inscribed LIBERTY. The legend E • P L U R I B U S • U N U M appears along the upper rim, and the date 1889 is at the base flanked by thirteen stars. The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch, encircled by a partial wreath. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR, with the motto In God we trust in Gothic script positioned above the eagle. A single capital O mint mark is present on the reverse, located centrally below the wreath and above the letters D and O in DOLLAR. Weight: 0.851 ozt (measured on digital scale). The coin is in circulated condition with moderate wear to the high points of the design, specifically Liberty's hair above the ear and the eagle's breast feathers (photos 1 and 2). Numerous contact marks, bag marks, and fine surface scratches are visible across both the obverse and reverse fields (photos 1 and 2). Dark gray toning and residue are concentrated around the peripheral lettering and within the recessed areas of the devices (photos 1 and 2). The rim shows minor contact nicks but remains largely intact.
