US Fifth Issue Twenty-Five Cent Fractional Currency Note Robert J. Walker - A US Fifth Issue fractional currency note with a denomination of twenty-five cents. The obverse features a portrait of Robert J. Walker in an oval frame on the left and a central numeral 25 within a scrollwork design. The note is printed in black ink with a circular red treasury seal on the right side. The obverse bears the printed signatures of John Allison over the text REGISTER and F. E. Spinner over the text TREASURER. The reverse is printed in green ink and features a central 25 CENTS vignette within a scalloped border. Text on the reverse includes ACT OF MARCH 3rd 1863, ACT OF JUNE 30th 1864, and the printer's mark at the bottom reading COLUMBIAN BANK NOTE CO WASHINGTON D.C. Approximately 3 1/4 inches by 2 1/8 inches. The note exhibits heavy circulation wear and toning consistent with a grade of Good. Multiple prominent vertical and horizontal folds are visible throughout the paper (photo 2). The margins are ragged with several small tears and significant chipping, including a large V-shaped notch on the center-left edge (photo 2). The corners are rounded with visible paper loss (photo 3). The note is housed in a clear acrylic screw-down holder showing heavy surface scratching (photo 1).
