The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's design of Lady Liberty walking toward a rising sun, inscribed with LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1999. The reverse displays John Mercanti's heraldic eagle with a shield, holding an olive branch and arrows, inscribed with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER-ONE DOLLAR, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM on a banner, and the P mint mark. The coin is composed of 99.9% fine silver and features a proof finish characterized by frosted raised elements against mirror-like fields. It is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule and presented in a navy blue velvet case. The exterior lid of the case is stamped in silver with the Great Seal of the United States and the text AMERICAN EAGLE and ONE OUNCE PROOF SILVER BULLION COIN. Included is a printed document titled 1999 SILVER AMERICAN EAGLE ONE DOLLAR COIN SPECIFICATIONS providing technical details and designer attributions for the United States Mint.
