A Collection of Four Victorian Era Mother-of-Pearl Belt Buckles and Slides - This collection consists of four antique fashion accessories crafted from iridescent mother-of-pearl shell and brass-tone metal hardware. The shell exhibits natural nacreous luster with pink and green color play. The set features a large rectangular buckle with a central brass bar, two fixed prongs, and a rounded thumb grip, riveted to the shell frame. A large decorative slide features a scalloped outer edge and is fitted with a brass frame on the reverse containing a central vertical pin and a wide prong. Two matching small oval slides complete the group, each featuring two sharp brass prongs riveted through the shell to a backplate. No maker names, signatures, or hallmarks are visible on the shell or the hardware. Scalloped slide: 2.5 inches in length Rectangular buckle: 2.25 inches in length Small oval slides: 1 inch in width each. The items are in good antique condition. One of the small oval slides has a visible hairline crack running through the shell (photo 1). The brass hardware on all four pieces shows significant oxidation and tarnish (photo 4). The reverse of the scalloped slide displays dark discoloration and possible residue from adhesive around the metal frame (photo 4). The shell surfaces exhibit light surface scuffing and natural variations typical of the material and age.
