US 1880-O Morgan Silver Dollar - A US 1880 Morgan silver dollar struck at the New Orleans Mint. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The obverse features the profile of Lady Liberty facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wheat and cotton, and a headband inscribed with the characters L, I, B, E, R, T, Y. The legend E • PLURIBUS • UNUM is inscribed along the upper rim, with thirteen stars and the date 1880 at the bottom. The reverse depicts a bald eagle with wings spread, clutching an olive branch and arrows within a laurel wreath, with the motto In God we trust above its head. An impressed O mint mark is located on the reverse above the DO in DOLLAR. The reverse legend reads UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination ONE DOLLAR. The coin has a reeded edge. Weight: 0.859 ozt. The coin is in circulated condition with moderate wear consistent with a grade in the Very Fine to Extremely Fine range. Wear is visible on the high points of Liberty's hair, particularly above the ear and on the cotton blossoms (photo 1), and on the eagle's breast feathers and wing tips (photo 2). The surfaces display a dark gray patina with significant toning in the recessed areas (photos 1 and 2). No major scratches or rim dings are visible.
