1942 US Mercury Dime PCGS AU53 - A 1942 US silver ten-cent coin, known as the Winged Liberty Head or Mercury dime. This specimen is struck in 90 percent silver. It is professionally graded and encapsulated in a PCGS plastic slab. The obverse label is printed with 1942, 10C, and the grade PCGS AU53. Below the grade, the certification number 5034.53/27864825 is printed above a barcode. The obverse of the coin features the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1942. A monogram W is located behind the neck of the profile. The reverse side includes the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. On the back of the slab, a rectangular holographic label is printed with PCGS and NASDAQ:CLCT. A square adhesive label is affixed to the back of the slab with the characters NFF handwritten in black ink. The coin is third-party graded AU53 by PCGS. Light golden-brown toning is observed on both the obverse and reverse surfaces (photo 1, photo 3). Light wear is evident on the highest points of the relief, specifically on the hair (photo 2) and the bands of the fasces (photo 3). The coin appears free of significant contact marks or deep scratches. The plastic holder exhibits minor surface scuffs (photo 1).
