Antique Victorian Butterfly Stickpin with Rose Cut Stone - A late nineteenth to early twentieth-century stickpin featuring a butterfly motif. The butterfly is constructed with a ribbed, conical body and stamped metal wings with scalloped edges. The wings are decorated with rayed engraving at the base and applied circular discs. The head of the butterfly is set with a single round, rose-cut clear stone measuring approximately 4mm in diameter, secured in an eight-prong crown setting. The stickpin shaft includes a central spiral twist. No maker marks, hallmarks, or metal fineness stamps are visible on the motif or the pin shaft. Total length: 2.75 inches Motif width: 0.5 inches. The item is in fair antique condition. Significant surface tarnish, oxidation, and wear to the gold-toned finish are visible on the front and back of the butterfly motif (photos 2 and 3). The pin shaft exhibits multiple prominent spots of red oxidation and rust (photos 1 and 4), indicating a base metal core. The rose-cut stone appears secure but shows internal inclusions and surface grime (photo 2).
