US 1998-P American Silver Eagle One Dollar Proof Coin - A US 1998 American Silver Eagle one dollar proof coin struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features the Walking Liberty design with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1998. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with a shield, carrying an olive branch and arrows beneath thirteen stars, with a P mint mark located to the left of the eagle's tail. Reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER-ONE DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM on a scroll. The coin is composed of 99.9 percent fine silver. It is presented in a clear protective plastic capsule within a blue velvet-lined hinged case featuring a gold-tone Great Seal of the United States on the interior lid. The lot includes the original dark blue outer box printed with AMERICAN EAGLE and ONE OUNCE PROOF SILVER BULLION COIN, and a printed card titled 1998 SILVER AMERICAN EAGLE ONE DOLLAR COIN SPECIFICATIONS. The card identifies the coin artists as Adolph A. Weinman and John Mercanti. One photograph shows the item in a clear plastic bag with the handwritten number 149. According to the included specification card, the physical properties are as follows: Diameter: 40.60 mm Thickness: 3.10 mm Weight: 31.103 g. The coin is in brilliant proof condition with mirrored fields and frosted relief devices. No visible toning, spotting, or handling marks are evident through the capsule (Photos 2 and 3). The blue velvet presentation case is in excellent condition (Photo 4). The outer blue box shows minor signs of shelf wear and light scuffing (Photo 1).
