A Collection of US Indian Head One Cent Coins - A collection of US one-cent coins struck in bronze, featuring the Indian Head design. The obverse of each specimen bears the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounding a left-facing bust of Liberty wearing a feathered headdress, with the date at the base. The reverse design consists of the denomination ONE CENT within a wreath of oak and laurel, topped with a shield at the center. The assortment includes visible dates of 1898, 1901, 1902, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908, and 1909. These issues represent the later years of the series before its replacement by the Lincoln cent in 1909. No mint marks are visible on the 1908 or 1909 issues. The coins are in heavily circulated condition, showing significant wear to all high points of the designs. All specimens exhibit varying degrees of environmental damage, including deep brown-to-black surface staining and pitting. Prominent green verdigris corrosion is present on numerous coins, notably on the obverses of the 1902 and 1907 specimens (photo 4) and several reverses (photos 5 and 10). One coin displays a significant area of surface distortion or foreign material buildup on the reverse (upper left, photo 3). Several dates are partially obscured by wear or corrosion (photo 1).
