Liberty and Co Art Nouveau Silver and Polychrome Enamel Brooch - This rectangular silver brooch is designed in the Art Nouveau style, featuring a central rectangular aperture characteristic of a sash buckle. The piece is decorated with polychrome guilloche enamel, displaying stylized blue flowers, likely harebells or bluebells, and green foliage against a translucent white enamel ground with a wavy textured metal base. The floral motifs are positioned at the four corners and joined by undulating green stems along the upper and lower edges. The brooch is constructed with a silver frame and is fitted with a horizontal pin and C-clasp on the reverse. A stamped mark is applied to the side edge of the frame consisting of the uppercase characters LIBERTY & CO. 1 5/8 inches in height by 1 1/4 inches in width. The brooch is in fair to good antique condition. Significant green verdigris oxidation is visible on the face, particularly where the enamel meets the inner and outer metal borders (photo 1, photo 4). The silver frame and the reverse exhibit heavy tarnish and a dark patina throughout (photo 2, photo 5). The enamel is largely intact, though there is visible surface grime and yellowing within the white sections (photo 3). The pin mechanism is functional, but the pin shows some oxidation and slight bending (photo 5).
