Bidspirit auction | Two Italian Micro-Mosaic Floral Brooches

Two Italian Micro-Mosaic Floral Brooches - This pair of Italian micro-mosaic brooches features intricate floral designs constructed from small glass tesserae set into gilt base metal frames. The first brooch is circular in form, displaying a dense bouquet of flowers including a prominent white daisy with a yellow center, surrounded by pink and red blossoms and green foliage. This floral arrangement is set against a vibrant turquoise-blue ground and is bordered by a frame decorated with sixteen small spherical projections. The reverse of the round brooch is fitted with a simple C-clasp and an extended pin stem. The second brooch is oval in shape and features a complex multi-paneled design. The central oval cartouche contains red and white flowers, bordered by four fan-shaped white and pink panels and two lateral panels with geometric patterns. These sections are separated by twisted rope-style filigree. The reverse of the oval brooch bears a stamped circular mark. The outer arc reads MADE IN ITALY and contains two small five-pointed stars, while the center features an oval containing the letters FAP. This mark identifies the manufacturer as Fratelli Alinari Poggibonsi. The oval brooch is fitted with a pin and a rollover safety clasp. Round brooch: 0.875 inches in diameter Oval brooch: 1.125 inches in length. The micro-mosaic work on both brooches appears to be complete with no missing or loose tesserae visible in the frontal views (photos 1, 2, and 3). The metal frames and reverse sides exhibit significant tarnish, patina, and dark oxidation spots consistent with age (photos 4 and 5). The pin mechanisms are intact and functional.
