British India George VI Silver 1/4 Rupee Coin 1945 Bombay Mint - A British India silver 1/4 Rupee coin dated 1945. The obverse displays a crowned profile portrait of King George VI facing left, surrounded by the legend GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR. The reverse features a central circle containing the denomination 1/4 RUPEE, issuer INDIA, and the date 1945, with a line of Urdu script below. A small raised dot located beneath the date identifies the Bombay (Mumbai) mint. The central design is encircled by an ornate floral wreath including depictions of the lotus, rose, thistle, and shamrock. The coin is struck in quaternary silver, comprised of 0.500 fine silver. It features a reeded edge. The coin is in circulated condition with moderate wear on the high points of the portrait and crown (photo 1). The surfaces show scattered fine scratches and minor abrasions consistent with handling (photos 1, 2). Dark toning and residue are present in the recessed areas of the design, particularly around the letters and within the floral wreath (photo 2). The rim displays light wear and small dings (photos 1, 2).
