A Collection of Sterling Silver Mounted Hair Side Combs - A collection of six hair side combs, organized into three matching pairs, featuring translucent plastic teeth with decorative sterling silver mounts. The collection includes a pair of dark red combs with silver mounts in a repeating braided pattern, a pair of amber-toned combs with repousse silver mounts featuring a floral and leaf design, and a pair of clear combs with scalloped silver mounts accented by raised beads. The sterling silver components are secured to the plastic bases with metal pins. An impressed rectangular mark is visible on the mount of the clear comb shown in the lower-left of the group (photo 2), though the characters are not clearly legible as a name or specific origin. Red comb width: 2 inches per comb Amber comb width: 1.75 inches per comb Clear comb width: 1.75 inches per comb Teeth length: 2 to 2.5 inches. One clear comb has four teeth missing (photos 2 and 7). The amber-toned combs show slight warping to several teeth (photo 6). All sterling silver mounts exhibit moderate tarnish and surface oxidation, most notably in the recessed areas of the decorative metalwork (photos 3, 4, and 5). The plastic teeth across the collection show fine surface scratches and minor age-related clouding.
