JP Silver 100 Yen Coin, 1959 (Showa 34) - A Japan silver 100 Yen coin dated Showa year 34 (1959), cataloged as Y#78. The coin is struck in .600 fine silver. The obverse features a central design of rice ears with the characters 日本 (Japan) at the top and 百円 (100 Yen) at the bottom. The reverse displays a large numeral 100 set against a background of horizontal lines and diagonal hatching, with the characters 昭和 (Showa) at the top and 三十四年 (Year 34) at the base. The coin is finished with a beaded border on both faces and is housed in a clear plastic protective flip. The coin is in very fine circulated condition. Wear is evident on the highest relief of the rice ears (photo 1) and the central numeral 100 (photo 2). The fields and design elements show scattered surface marks and small contact nicks consistent with circulation. Dark toning and minor deposits are visible in the recessed areas of the lettering and within the beaded border on both the obverse and reverse (photo 1, 2).
