1995-S US Civil War Battlefields Commemorative Proof Silver Dollar - A 1995-S US Civil War Battlefields commemorative silver dollar struck in a proof finish. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper. The obverse features an image of a Civil War soldier assisting a wounded comrade, with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1995. An impressed S mint mark for the San Francisco Mint is visible in the right field. Small impressed initials DT and EZS are present near the lower rim. The reverse bears a scenic depiction of the Gettysburg battlefield and a tower, overlaid with a quote by Joshua Chamberlain reading IN GREAT DEEDS SOMETHING ABIDES. ON GREAT FIELDS SOMETHING STAYS. The coin is housed in its original United States Mint packaging, including a clear protective plastic capsule, a green velvet-lined presentation case, and a blue-green cardboard outer box featuring a printed white seal. The interior lid of the case contains a printed logo reading UNITED STATES MINT below a circular emblem and a red, white, and blue diagonal ribbon. The coin exhibits a sharp proof strike with frosted cameo devices and highly reflective, mirrored fields.
