A Collection of US-Philippines 1944-D Silver Centavo Coins - A collection of silver coins struck at the Denver Mint for the Commonwealth of the Philippines under United States administration. The group consists of two denominations: Ten Centavos and Twenty Centavos. Each coin is composed of 75 percent silver and 25 percent copper. The obverse of each piece bears the readable inscription FILIPINAS along with either TEN CENTAVOS or TWENTY CENTAVOS. The reverse displays the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the date 1944. A readable D mint mark is positioned below the date on the reverse. The edges are reeded. Weight: 0.961 ozt Diameter: 17 mm (Ten Centavos); 21 mm (Twenty Centavos). The coins are in circulated condition, exhibiting varying degrees of surface wear and toning throughout the collection (photo 1). Light surface scratches and minor contact marks are present on both the obverse and reverse of the coins. Small spots of green residue or oxidation are visible on the obverse of a Ten Centavos coin (photo 2) and the reverse of another Ten Centavos coin (photo 3). Similar green spotting is observed on the obverse of a Twenty Centavos coin (photo 4) and the reverse of another Twenty Centavos coin (photo 5). Some pieces retain trace amounts of original mint luster in protected areas.
