A Pair of US Silver Commemorative Half Dollars, 1893 and 1946 - A pair of US commemorative half dollars struck in .900 fine silver with reeded edges. The first specimen is an 1893 Columbian Exposition half dollar. The obverse contains the readable inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and COLUMBIAN HALF DOLLAR. The reverse bears the legible inscriptions WORLD'S COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION CHICAGO, 14 92, and 1893. The second specimen is a 1946 Booker T. Washington Birthplace Memorial half dollar. The obverse contains the readable inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1946, HALF DOLLAR, BOOKER T. WASHINGTON, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The reverse bears the legible inscriptions BOOKER T. WASHINGTON BIRTHPLACE MEMORIAL, FROM SLAVE CABIN TO HALL OF FAME, IN GOD WE TRUST, FRANKLIN COUNTY VA, and LIBERTY. Weight: 0.800 ozt (combined). The 1893 Columbian Exposition half dollar exhibits heavy dark toning across the obverse and reverse surfaces (photo 3 and 4) and moderate wear on the high points of the design. The 1946 Booker T. Washington half dollar shows visible surface scratches and contact marks in the fields and on the portrait (photo 5 and 6), with slight wear on high points.
