1879-S US Morgan Silver Dollar - A United States silver dollar of the Morgan type, struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse bears a struck legend around the rim reading E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen struck stars, and the date 1879 struck at the base. A coronet on the central profile portrait is inscribed with the readable letters LIBERTY. The reverse features struck legends reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR, along with a struck motto reading In God we trust in Gothic script. A single struck letter S mint mark is positioned below the wreath and above the space between the letters D and O of DOLLAR. Weight: 0.857 ozt. The coin is in circulated condition, showing moderate wear consistent with a very fine grade. Wear is visible on the high points of the hair and coronet on the obverse (Photo 1) and on the eagle's breast and wing tips on the reverse (Photo 2). Scattered contact marks and small surface scratches are present in the fields on both sides. Dark peripheral toning is evident around the rims and within the recessed areas of the lettering and stars.
