Bidspirit auction | Two Mid-Century Figural Costume Jewelry
Two Mid-Century Figural Costume Jewelry Items Including an Enameled 10 Karat Gold Filled Soldier Pin and a Rhinestone Bird Sweater Guard - This lot comprises two pieces of mid-20th-century costume jewelry. The first piece is a double-clip sweater guard featuring two flying birds, likely swallows, crafted from a rose gold-toned base metal. The wings and heads of the birds are set with numerous clear rhinestones. The two clips are connected by a double curb-link chain. The item is presented in its original satin-lined cardboard box, which includes a blue and white ribbon label that reads GOLD PLATE. The reverse of one bird clip bears a small circular impressed mark, though the characters within are not legible. The second item is a small figural lapel pin depicting a marching soldier or drum major. The figure is decorated with red, white, blue, and magenta enamel. The reverse of the pin is stamped with the characters 1/10 10K G. F. signifying it is 10 karat gold filled. The pin is equipped with a functional C-clasp. Each bird clip: 1.5 inches by 1 inch. Sweater guard total length: 6.5 inches. Soldier pin height: 0.625 inches. The sweater guard exhibits significant green oxidation and verdigris on several links of the chain (photo 6). The metal on the reverse of the bird clips shows heavy tarnish and verdigris (photo 7). Several rhinestones have yellowed or dimmed with age (photo 5). The original presentation box shows shelf wear and staining to the satin lining (photo 1). The enameled soldier pin is in good vintage condition with intact enamel and only minor surface tarnish on the reverse (photo 3).
