IT 1927 5 Lire Silver Coin Vittorio Emanuele III Rome Mint - An IT 1927 5 Lire silver coin struck at the Rome mint. The obverse features a profile portrait of King Vittorio Emanuele III facing left, with the encircling text VITTORIO • EMANVELE • III • RE • D'ITALIA • and the designer's signature G. ROMAGNOLI incised below the bust. The reverse displays an eagle with spread wings standing on a horizontal fasces with a protruding axe head. A mint mark R and the date 1927 appear at the center left, with the denomination L. 5 at the base. This coin type is typically composed of .835 fineness silver. The coin exhibits moderate to heavy circulation wear across both faces. Substantial loss of detail is evident on the high points of the King's hair and ear (photo 1) and the eagle's breast and wing feathers (photo 2). Dark, uneven toning covers the fields and devices on the obverse and reverse. Multiple fine surface scratches are present, along with several small nicks along the rim, most notably on the lower obverse edge (photo 1).
