1947 Southern Rhodesia Cupronickel Sixpence - A Southern Rhodesian cupronickel sixpence dated 1947. The obverse features a crowned left-facing portrait of King George VI surrounded by the legend GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR. Small impressed initials PM for designer Percy Metcalfe are located at the base of the neck truncation. The reverse depicts two crossed ceremonial axes flanked by the date 19 47, with a large numeral 6 centered below. The peripheral legend reads SOUTHERN RHODESIA and PENCE. This 1947 issue marks the transition from silver to cupronickel composition for the Southern Rhodesian sixpence series. The coin is presented in a standard 2x2 cardboard and mylar protective holder. The coin exhibits a circulated grade with moderate wear visible on the high points of the crown and facial features (photo 2) and the axe blades (photo 1). Both faces display a dark, consistent aged patina. There are no significant rim nicks, deep scratches, or signs of cleaning visible through the holder.
