GER 1874-A 1 Mark Silver Coin - A German Empire 1 Mark silver coin struck at the Berlin Mint, as indicated by the struck letter A at the bottom center of the obverse. The obverse features the first type crowned imperial eagle (Reichsadler) with a shield on its breast. The reverse displays the arched legend DEUTSCHES REICH above the denomination 1 MARK and the date 1874, all centered within a tied oak wreath. Based on specifications for this type, the coin is composed of .900 fine silver, weighs approximately 5.55 grams, and measures 24 mm in diameter. The coin is presented in a white cardboard 2x2 flip with handwritten notations in black ink reading 1874, F, .9 Silver, 95.-, and GERMAN 1 MARK. The coin exhibits significant circulation wear consistent with a fine grade. On the obverse, the details of the eagle's plumage and the central breast shield are largely flattened (photo 3). The reverse shows wear on the oak leaves and the high points of the numerals and letters (photo 2). The surfaces exhibit a dark, uneven brownish-grey toning with minor green oxidation residue visible within the lettering on the reverse (photo 2). There are no major scratches or rim defects visible through the holder.
