1916 CH Silver 1 Franc Coin - This .835 fineness silver 1 Franc coin was issued by Switzerland in 1916. The obverse features the standing figure of Helvetia holding a spear and a shield embossed with a cross, surrounded by 22 stars. The word HELVETIA is embossed at the base of the standing figure. The reverse displays the denomination 1 Fr. above the date 1916, enclosed within a wreath of oak and alpine rose branches. An embossed capital letter B mint mark, representing the Bern Mint, is located at the bottom center of the reverse. The coin is housed in a white cardboard 2x2 flip with a clear plastic window. The flip bears several handwritten notations in black ink: 1916, F, .835 Silv, 45.-, and 1 FRANK SWITZERLAND. The coin exhibits a circulated grade, consistent with the Fine notation on the cardboard holder. Significant dark toning and tarnish are visible across the surfaces of both the obverse (photo 2) and reverse (photo 3). Moderate wear is present on the high points of the design, specifically on the figure of Helvetia and the leaves of the wreath. No major scratches or edge nicks are observable through the holder.
