1942 UK Silver Sixpence - This 1942 UK sixpence is struck in .500 fine silver. The obverse features the bareheaded portrait of King George VI facing left, surrounded by the legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX. The artist initials HP are struck below the truncation of the neck. The reverse displays the crowned royal monogram GRI flanked by the date 19 42. The upper legend reads FID DEF IND IMP and the lower denomination is marked SIXPENCE with the artist initials K G to the right. The coin features a reeded edge. It is housed in a white cardboard flip with a clear plastic window, which bears handwritten black ink inscriptions reading 1942, AU, 10.-, .50 silver, and Brit. Sixpence. The coin is in About Uncirculated condition as noted on the housing. The design elements retain high relief with minimal wear on the King's ear and the central bands of the crown (photos 2 and 3). Light champagne-colored toning is present across both faces, and original mint luster is visible in the protected areas around the lettering (photos 2 and 3). Minor surface abrasions and scattered contact marks are visible in the fields (photos 2 and 3). No significant edge knocks or scratches are observed.
