A Large Nepalese Gilded Metal Pectoral Pendant Set with Coral Turquoise and Lapis Lazuli - This large and ornate pectoral pendant is characteristic of 19th-century Himalayan craftsmanship, likely from Nepal. The double-sided piece is constructed from a yellow-toned metal, such as fire-gilt brass or copper. The obverse is densely encrusted with cabochon-cut stones including red coral, blue lapis lazuli, and turquoise. These are arranged in high-walled bezels, often using a traditional red lac or resin to secure the stones. The central composition features three crowned figures; the central figure is depicted with a turquoise face, while the two flanking figures have red faces. The reverse of the pendant is equally decorative, featuring a central hand-shaped motif (resembling a Hamsa) composed of coral, lapis lazuli, and elongated black stone rods, possibly onyx or jet. This central element is surrounded by a broad border of exceptionally fine, hand-soldered wire filigree in a repeating scrollwork pattern. Two ribbed suspension loops are located at the top of the piece. No maker marks, hallmarks, or signatures are visible on any surface. Width: approximately 3 inches. The pendant is in good overall condition with a rich, aged patina. Tarnish is visible in the deeper recesses of the filigree and stone settings on both sides (photo 1, 2). The intricate wire filigree on the reverse is largely intact, although there are minor irregularities and small areas where the wire is slightly bent (photo 3). The stones appear to be mostly complete and secure within their settings, with some variation in the height and polish of the cabochons consistent with hand-cutting and age. No significant structural damage or repairs are evident.
