1942 D AU Silver Sixpence - This AU silver sixpence is dated 1942 and was struck at the US Denver Mint. The obverse features the George VI bare head coinage portrait surrounded by the struck legend GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP. The reverse displays the 1908 Australian Coat of Arms design with the denomination SIXPENCE above and a scroll reading ADVANCE AUSTRALIA below. A small impressed D mint mark is located centrally above the date. The coin is composed of .925 fine silver and features a reeded edge. It is currently housed in a clear, unbranded coin holder. The coin is in circulated condition. It exhibits significant dark toning and accumulated surface grime across both the obverse and reverse faces (photos 1, 2). There is a prominent dark spot or pit located in the obverse field to the left of the portrait (photo 2). Scattered light scratches and small contact marks are visible on the surfaces and edges.
