Bidspirit auction | 1805 US Draped Bust Half
1805 US Draped Bust Half Cent - This US copper half cent is dated 1805 and was struck at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features the Draped Bust Liberty design facing right with hair tied in a ribbon. It bears the legend LIBERTY arched above the head and the date 1805 at the base. The reverse displays the denomination HALF CENT centered within a laurel wreath that features stems at the base, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Beneath the ribbon tie of the wreath is the fractional value 1 / 200. This specimen is the With Stems variety. The coin exhibits significant circulation wear, resulting in the smoothing of the finer details in Liberty's hair and the leaves of the reverse wreath (photo 1, 2). The copper surfaces display a dark brown patina with scattered contact marks, small nicks, and surface granularity consistent with age (photo 1, 2). The denticulated rims are largely defined around the circumference.
