US 1956 Lincoln Wheat Cent with Post-Mint Metallic Plating - A US One Cent coin dated 1956, struck in the Lincoln Wheat design. This Philadelphia Mint issue lacks a mint mark. The coin displays a silvery metallic appearance from a post-mint coating. The underlying copper composition is visible where the surface finish has worn, specifically at the rims and points of high relief. The obverse bears the impressed inscriptions IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and the date 1956. The reverse features the impressed text ONE CENT and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM along the upper rim. The coin has a plain edge. The coin is in heavily circulated condition. Extensive fine scratches and surface abrasions are visible across both the obverse and reverse (photos 1, 2, 3, 4). The silvery surface coating is worn away at the high points of the design and along the rim, exposing the copper-toned metal (photos 1, 2, 3). A granular texture and numerous small nicks are present throughout. Green verdigris is visible on a portion of the reverse rim (photo 4).
