UK 1919 Sterling Silver Sixpence - A United Kingdom 1919 sixpence struck in .925 sterling silver. The obverse displays the left-facing profile portrait of King George V, surrounded by the Latin legend GEORGIVS V DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX. The reverse features a crowned lion standing upon a crown, flanked by the split date 19 19. The legends FID: DEF: IND: IMP: and SIXPENCE are inscribed around the perimeter. The coin has a reeded edge. The piece is presented in a white cardboard flip with a circular plastic window. The coin exhibits significant circulation wear. Heavy wear is visible on the high points of the monarch's portrait, resulting in the loss of fine detail in the hair and facial features (photo 1). Similar wear is present on the lion and crown on the reverse (photo 2). The surfaces have a dull gray patina with areas of darker toning and tarnish. A distinct copper-colored oxidation spot is present on the obverse near the 8 o'clock position (photo 1).
