Mexico 1835-Zs OM Silver 1 Real - A Mexican silver 1 Real coin dated 1835, issued by the First Republic and struck at the Zacatecas Mint. The obverse displays the arched legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA. The reverse features a central liberty cap inscribed with the word LIBERTAD surrounded by rays. The lower legend is inscribed * 1R. Zs. 1835. O. M. 10Ds. 20Gs. denoting the denomination, mint mark, date, assayer initials, and silver fineness of 10 dineros and 20 granos. The coin is composed of approximately .903 fine silver. The specimen is presented in a square white cardboard and plastic film holder bearing the handwritten inscription republic mexicana in black ink. The coin displays moderate circulation wear consistent with a technical grade of Fine. Heavy, dark, and uneven toning is present on both faces. Significant surface encrustation and environmental residue are visible, particularly concentrated on the obverse eagle and surrounding fields (photo 3). The reverse shows dark oxidation and environmental residue trapped within the rays and legends (photo 1).
