Bidspirit auction | Egyptian Revival Cast Metal Scarab
Egyptian Revival Cast Metal Scarab Pendant with Lampwork Glass Bead - An Egyptian Revival-style scarab pendant charm. The piece is constructed from cast base metal with an antiqued gold-toned finish. The obverse features a relief-cast stylized scarab beetle on a textured oval ground. The reverse side features three vertical columns of incised symbols. The center column displays a circle above a small scarab, three vertical lines, and a semi-circular form. The left column contains a crook-like symbol, a leaf shape, and a triangle. The right column includes a circle, a serpent form, a circle, a wedge, and a circle. The pendant is suspended by a jump ring from a hand-wrapped wire assembly containing a single red lampwork glass bead with multi-colored floral inclusions and two small metallic spacer beads. The wire terminates in a simple loop for attachment. Scarab pendant measures approximately 1 inch in length and 5/8 inch in width across the widest point. Overall length is approximately 2 1/4 inches. The item is in good vintage condition. Visible surface wear to the gold-toned finish is present on the high points of the casting, revealing a darker base metal underneath (photo 2). A natural dark patina is visible in the recessed areas of the design (photo 3). The wire wrapping is secure with minor irregularities consistent with hand-made assembly (photo 1). The lampwork glass bead is intact with no visible chips or cracks (photo 1).
