EG Silver 5 Qirsh AH 1327 Ottoman Empire Sultan Mehmed V - This is a silver alloy billon coin issued for Egypt under the Ottoman Empire during the reign of Sultan Mehmed V. The obverse displays the sultan's calligraphic monogram, or tughra, with the accession year ١٣٢٧ (AH 1327 / 1909 AD) positioned below it. The central design is surrounded by a border of seven five-pointed stars and a denticulated rim. The reverse features a stylized Arabic inscription including the mint location Misr (Egypt) and the regnal year ٢ (2) denoting the second year of the reign. The reverse design is likewise encircled by a ring of stars and a denticulated rim. The coin features a reeded edge. The coin displays significant circulation wear across all raised surfaces. There is heavy dark toning on both the obverse and reverse faces. Significant surface encrustation and accumulated grime are present within the recessed areas of the tughra and inscriptions (photo 1 and photo 2). The rim shows wear to the denticulation and minor contact marks (photo 2). The coin appears to be in an uncleaned state.
