1973-S US Eisenhower 40% Silver Proof Dollar in Original Government Packaging - A 1973-S US Eisenhower proof dollar composed of 40% silver. The obverse features a profile portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower with the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1973. The mint mark S for the San Francisco Mint is visible above the date. The reverse shows an eagle landing on the moon with an olive branch, the Earth in the background, and inscriptions reading UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination ONE DOLLAR. The coin is housed in a black textured plastic holder with silver-toned script reading Eisenhower, United States, and Proof Dollar, and is printed PACKAGED BY U.S. MINT at the bottom. This holder is set within a red velvet-lined cardboard box with a wood-grain finish, commonly referred to as a brown box. The lid features a printed gold-foil seal of the United States Mint. A piece of blue tape with the handwritten number 36 is adhered to the upper right corner of the lid. The coin is a proof strike with mirrored fields and frosted devices. Significant white hazy toning and milk spotting are visible on both the obverse and reverse fields (photos 1, 2, and 3). The plastic holder contains some minor surface dust (photo 2). The exterior cardboard box exhibits light wear at the edges and corners, and includes a non-original adhesive label on the front (photo 4).
