US Rockford, IL Transportation Token, White Metal - A circular transportation token struck in white metal, issued by the Central Illinois Electric and Gas Company for use in Rockford, Illinois. The token features a central cut-out stylized letter R with an engine-turned cross-hatch texture. On the obverse, a struck legend along the outer rim reads C.I.E. AND G. CO. at the top and ROCKFORD, ILL. at the bottom. The reverse features a matching layout with the struck legend GOOD FOR at the top and ONE CITY FARE at the bottom. The piece is housed in a standard 2x2 white cardboard flip with a handwritten blue ink label reading Rockford Ill. The token is in circulated condition with a dull gray patina. Moderate wear is visible on the high points of the lettering and the textured central R on both the obverse (photo 2) and reverse (photo 3). Several small patches of brownish oxidation and surface spotting are present on the obverse (photo 2) and reverse (photo 3).
